Ministry of Climate and Environment is working on decarbonising the heating sector
On 15 October, the first meeting of the team for the transformation of the heating sector and the definition of a model for the functioning of the heat market took place. The team's task is to develop solutions for the transformation of the Polish district heating sector by increasing the share of RES and improving energy efficiency.
The team is composed of representatives of public institutions, heating companies, scientific circles and NGOs. The first meeting of the Team for Transformation of the Heat Sector and Determination of the Functioning of the Heat Market was attended by the Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kloska and the Deputy Minister Urszula Zielińska.
The team serves as a subsidiary body of the minister responsible for energy. The main tasks of the team are:
- Analysis and assessment of the economic situation and regulatory conditions for the operation of the heat sector in Poland.
- Analysis and assessment of the potential of the heat market to achieve climate policy objectives and development of directional recommendations on the strategy for development and transformation of the heat sector in Poland.
- Proposing changes in regulations or indicating their directions, enabling the achievement of the set objectives to ensure transformation and functioning of the heat sector in Poland.
- Developing solutions and recommendations for financing the transformation of the heating sector in Poland.
As emphasised during the meeting, the priority objectives of the team are the decarbonisation of the district heating sector in Poland and achieving it in an optimised manner. The team will also work on developing recommendations for smaller district heating systems that do not have sufficient resources to make decisions on the selection of new technologies and choosing the right decarbonisation path.
The team for the transformation of district heating and the definition of the functioning of the heat market was established on the basis of the order of the Minister of Climate and Environment of 19 September 2024.
